Assam Rifles organises football tournament to commemorate 50th Vijay Diwas

Maram Battalion under the aegis of Jwalamukhi Sector/IGAR (E) organised a football tournament to commemorate 50th Vijay Diwas in Mao Song Song sub division at Rubunamei football ground.
The Battalion has made an untiring and relentless pursuit to uplift the morale of youth towards sports and motivate them to join Armed Forces.
A total of 8 teams from Rabunamai, Pudunamei, Punanamei, Chowainu, Kalinamai, Phikhomai, Song Song and Kayinu villages participated in the event.
During the opening ceremony Mao Company Commander gave a brief account of 1971 Indo-Pak war and importance of Swarnim Vijay Varsh which is aimed to motivate youth to join Armed Forces, followed by team interaction with chief guest 2IC of Maram Battalion and tournament kick off by the chief guest.
During the tournament organised on knock-out basis, the participating teams displayed their highest degree of sporting skills, talent and spirit towards the game.
The semi-finals were played yesterday between teams of Song Song and Chowainu and Rubunamei and Pudunamai wherein Song Song and Rubunamei village won in their respective matches to reach the final which will be held on September 4.Approximately 800 civilians witnessed the semi finals.
The objective of the tournament is to commemorate Vijay diwas and pay homage to late Col Robert TA Kuba as well as to reach out to the youth and inculcate 'play the game' spirit in them.
Other than the chief guest, other dignitaries from CRPF & police also witnessed the tournament along with all the village headmen, chairman, secretaries and youth presidents.
They also supported the event in making it a grand success.
The local village teams were overwhelmed by the gesture shown by Maram Bn and thanked the Assam Rifles for this virtuous act.
The Mao Company Commander also assured the locals that Assam rifles is a true Friend of the hill people and shall always work to maintain a cordial relation and bring peace and harmony in the area.
