Endorsing the cause of the lei-Ingkhol people, many organisations have extended their support to the JAC Against the Eviction of Lei-Ingkhol which has been spearheading agitation against the Government�s decision to construct Capitol project at Lei-Ingkhol after evicting its residents.
A joint meeting attended by representatives of organisations like UCM, AMUCO, COHR, Mapi Council, Nupi Samaj, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi, Sangakpham Bazar Nupi Lup, Women�s Society, Chingmeirong; Kabui Mothers� Association, THANIL, KAMA, United Women�s Development Organisation, Panthoibi Meira Paibi, Thangmeiband; Sinam Leikai Meira Paibi Lup; Ragailong Women�s Society, PLMPAM, Laipham Khunou Maning Leikai Meira Paibi and Khurai Apunba Nupi Lup held at the meeting hall of Leprosy Patients� Welfare Society today.
After a serious of discussion, all those who attended the meeting pledge their support to the cause of the people and oppose any move taken up by the Government to evict the Lei- Ingkhol residents, according to a JAC statement.
Affected people plea: The people whose land have been affected due to expansion and conversion of Manipur University as a Central University have appealed to the Chief Minister as well as the Vice Chancellor of the University to allow them to cultivate the land till construction of any building or erecting boundary fencing.
On behalf of 66 signatories who land have been affected, Up-pradhan of Langthabal Mantrikhong Naorem Leikai Gram Panchayat has submitted a copy of the memorandum to the Chief Minister as well as to the Vice Chancellor respective in this regard.
The memorandum noted that these people have been depending on these paddy fields for their food supply which have been now occupied by the University for its expansion.
If they are not allowed to cultivate the land, they might suffer from starvation, the memorandum said.
