Imphal, June 01:
In a swift development within the Congress organisation six councillors served an ultimatum to the Chief Minister to expel Secretary (Organisation) of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee Bidyapati Senjam contrary to which two of the councillors were suspended from the party.
Two out of the six councillors who embossed signature in the resignation letters, have been suspended from the partys primary membership for a period of six years on charges of indulgence in anti-party activities.
The councillors had demanded that the MPCC President either take action against Bidyapati or accept their resignations.
According to press sources, todays development dates back to the May 29 meeting of the Congress councillors convened at Congress Bhavan wherein Municipal Council in-charge Dr Kh Loken, who is also the MPCC Secretary posed queries on current leader of the Congress councillors.
In reply, Ward No 19 councillor Lanpuijei Kabui is reported to have mentioned L Brajakishore as the leader.
It is worth mentioning that ever since IMC Chairperson Moirangjao Kabui owed allegiance to the Congress party no formal election/nomination of leader of Congress councillors had been held.
As Lanpuijei further insisted that electing leader of the Congress councillors should be the prerogative of the councillors themselves Bidyapati Senjam is informed to have used un-parliamentary language in brushing aside the councillors contention resulting in Lanpuijei walking out of the meeting in protest.
In support of Lanpuijei, six other councillors also staged walkout, added the source.
Amid strained relationship between the councillors and the MPCC secretary (Orgn) the councillors lodged a written complaint to the party President and Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh yesterday demanding action against Bidyapati Senjam and threatened to snap ties with the Congress party in case of non-compliance to their demand.
Rather than action against Bidyapati, the MPCCs Municipal Council in-charge Dr Kh Loken today issued an office order regarding suspension of two councillors who were among the six to have approached the CM.
Councillors listed in the suspension order are L Brajakishore of Ward No 9 and Lanpuijei Kabui himself.
As per Bidyapatis side of the story the allegation levelled by the six Congress councillors are baseless and concocted.
She further claimed that MPCC president had give consent on taking action against the four remaining councillors who had been served explanation notices.
