The cloud of uncertainty gripping Sangaiprou kabui Khul in the aftermath of an Imphal west police team thrashing some local residents subsided with the Government and local elders signing a deal this afternoon.
The agreement signed in consonance with customary laws of the Zeliangrong tribe includes the Government accepting guilt through presentation of gifts and concrete assurance to meet treatment expenditures of the injured.
The pact was signed between representatives of the JAC formed to denounce the police action and the Government side represented by non less than the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, Power Minister Gaikhangam and Chairperson of Manipur State Women Development Corporation AK Mirabai Devi.
Thirteen persons, including some women, suffered injuries when the police team raided Sangaiprou Kabui Khul on May 26 evening.
Highlighting atrocities committed by the police team Sangaiprou residents had staged sit-in-protest this morning with banners appealing for safety of minority community, demand for termination of the police officer who led the team and accusing O Ibobi Government of neglecting the Kabui people.
According to local sources, out of 13 persons assaulted by the police three are still in hospital undergoing further treatment.
