National Science Day

Manipur joined other States of the country in celebrating National Science Day with the main event held at GM Hall where an oral quiz competition was organised by the Department of Education (Schools) .
As chief guest of the function, Education (S) Director W Rajen Singh regretted that the Department's aim to commemorate the annual event in a more grandeur manner could not materialise due to the Nation-wide bandh call by trade unions.
Pointing out that there is need for promoting interest in science among the upcoming generation, especially the young students, he suggested that future commemorations should include various events to draw more students.
Exhorting young Manipuri students to continue to strive for competing with their global counterparts, the Director said acquaintance with the advancement in the field of science has become the index of development and progress of a society.
A quiz competition for school students was also conducted in three categories to celebrate the event which marks the day when Raman Effect was produced by Indian scientist CV Raman pioneer scientist CV Raman.
Cash prizes were presented by the dignitaries to the top three positive winners in the respective groups.
Among others Additional Director of Education (S) Khaikholen Haokip also attended the event.
The North East Institute of Science & Technology at celebrated National Science Day at its Lamphelpat office premises with Manipur University's College Development Council Director RK Ranjan and Director (MASTEC) Th Surendranath Singh gracing the occasion as the chief guest and president respectively.
MU duo Prof B Manihar Sharma and Prof N Rajmuhon Singh along with Dr H Nandiram Sharma of Science Teachers' Forum Manipur and Principal Scientist of CSIR-NEIST , Lamphelpat Dr H Birkumar Singh attended the event as the guests of honour.
In the scientific talk session, Prof Rajmuhon spoke on 'CV Raman and National Science Day', Th surendranath on 'Nobel Prizes: A Profile', and Prof Manihar Sharma on 'Protection of Environment' .
The other highlight of the celebration was deliberation on prospects of science as a career and need of scientific advancement in all aspects of development.
