National Science Day 2012 observed

As in other parts of the country, the National Science Day, 2012 was observed under the theme of 'Clean Energy Options and Nuclear Safety' in different parts of the state today.
Organised under the aegis of Directorate of Education (S), Government of Manipur, the main observance was held at GM Hall here today with W Rajen, Director, Education (S) and Additional Director Khaikholam Haokiop as Presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, W Rajen lamented over poor turnout of the students in the function on account of the general strike called today and said that the state could never move ahead in the path of development if such disturbances occur frequently.
As a part of the observance, Written and Oral Quiz Contest held.
In the Written Quiz Contest, Ch Sishirdhar (class IX) of Keishamthong High School, S Apanthoibi (class IX) of Temple of Learning and Yoihenba (X) of Keishamthong High School won the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively while the 1st, 2nd and the 3rd prizes in the Oral Group Quiz Contest were respectively bagged by Keishamthong High School, HRD Academy and Temple of Learning.
The 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes of the Individual Quiz Competition carry a cash reward of Rs 1000, Rs 800 and Rs 500 respectively along with certificates and a memento each while that of the the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in the Group Quiz Contest carry a cash prize of Rs 3000, Rs 2400 and Rs 1800 respectively along with memento and certificate each.
The National Science Day was also observed under the aegis of CSIR, North-East Institute of Science and Technology at its office complex at Lamphelpat today.
The function was graced by Dr RK Ranjan, Director, Manipur University College of Development Council and Dr H Birkumar, Principle Scientist, CSIR, North-East Institute of Science and Technology, Lamphelpat as Chief Guest and President respectively.
Th Surendranath, Executive Director, MASTEC Imphal, Prof B Manihar Sharma of Life Science Department, MU; Prof N Rajmohan, Chemistry Department MU and Dr H Nandiram Sharma, President, Science Teachers Forum were present on the occasion as Guests of Honour.
