JAC resolves to block trucks

The JAC constituted against the abduction of a driver and a helper by a faction of NSCN from Kohima has decided to block movement of all trucks transporting FCI goods in case the driver and the helper are not freed by August 24 .
Notably, all unloading activities of FCI godowns at Sangaiprou and Luwangshangbam have been ceased since yesterday.
Truck driver Goutam Gopal (28) s/o Ram Kumar Goutam of Kanglatongbi and his helper Namwang Newme (23) s/o Erangteung of Teguaram village, Tamenglong district who were transporting rice from Dimapur FCI godown to Sangaiprou were abducted by some unidentified persons from Kohima at around 2 am of August 13 .
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club, JAC convenor Bormani Leima said that a public meeting was held yesterday at Luwangshangbam under the aegis of the JAC.
The meeting resolve to cease all activities of FCI godowns located at Sangaiprou and Luwangshangbam in case the driver and the helper are not freed by August 24 together with the truck.
In addition, movement of trucks carrying FCI goods along Imphal-Dimapur highway and Imphal-Jiribam highway would be banned.
As told by the truck owner to the JAC, there was no case of any monetary demand and no 'tax' was indebted to the vehicle.
Yet, one faction of NSCN demanded money from one Leishang, an FCI contractor.
On the other hand, a protest demonstration was staged today at Kanglatongbi demanding safe release of driver Gopal and helper Namwang.
