Imphal, August 22 2014 :
Even though unemployment problem soars high in the resource-scarce state of Manipur, educated youths can well earn their livelihood by doing farming in their small pieces of land with minimum investment.
27-year old Takhellambam Annan Singh, son of T.Yaima Singh of Nongdam bazaar, located about 17 km east of Imphal city, has demonstrated it by planting U-Morok in his small land area measuring only 30 sq.
feet.
Born in a poor family, Annan, who could not further his studies beyond class XII, took up the farming of the chilly variety with polythene bags at his home by spending around Rs.17,000 in March this year.
He could have collected around Rs.15,000 till August by selling the chillies and the sale will continue throughout the year, said Annan, father of one daughter.

Saying 'we should not be selective on jobs', T.Annan suggested that Manipur state can develop economically by doing "Mix cropping" .
'We can undertake farming successfully at our small pieces of land by utilizing the new technologies', he added.
He started nurturing the U-morok saplings at his 30 square feet land from March this year by using 500 polyplastic bags.
He uses only Bio-compose, organic and Vermin compose for the chilly plants.
Under the banner of 'New Age Global Garden', Annan is planning to distribute the fresh U-Morok for sale.
Even though the production can well be enhanced with provision of a Green House by the Horticulture Department, the Manipur Govt.has not given any assistance to his enterprise so far.
The government has only deputed him to the Indian Institute of Horticulture Research, Bangalore for a farmers' training.
