Foundation Day of SEIPAN celebrated

Seihek Seireng Seipan Semgat Lup celebrated its 8th foundation day at Manipur Dramatic Union Hall here today with noted lyricist and litterateur B.Jayantakumar Sharma and President of SEIPAN Thokchom Chandra attending as chief guest and president respectively.
A book entitled "Tharol Esei" edited by Okendro Khundongbam which comprises lyrics of 22 different writers was released to mark the occasion.
Narendra Ningomba, cultural activist and columnist of Hueiyen Lanpao introduced the book to the audience.
In his speech, B.Jayantakumar lauded the lyricists of the state and their organizations in the development of literature in Manipur.
'Modern Song has been in existence since the establishment of Manipur Dramatic Union on 15 March 1931 and later developed in full swing with the setting up of Imphal radio station', Jayantakumar informed the gathering, and added that Matam Esei (Modern Song) is now able to stand independent on its own from the Drama and plays.
Renowned lyricists of Manipur, Sanglakpam Achou Sharma and Sagolsem Indrakumar were honoured with presentation of shawls and citations during the programme, in which a CD Cassette of songs was also released.
