CM distributes laboratory kits

Chief Minister O Ibobi singh today distributed different laboratory equipment worth Rs one crore to 57 schools of Manipur which are enrolled as DNA Clubs Schools, at a function held at Officers' Club, Lamphelpat.
The programme was sponsored by the National Bio-resource Development Board of Department of Bio-technology, New Delhi to promote deeper awareness about bio-resources and to enthuse students about role of biotechnology in their sustainable utilisation especially in the North East region under the Prime Minister's 100 days Programme.
The North East Institute of Science and Technology is the implementing agency of the programme in Manipur.
Out of 361 schools of the region covered by the Programme 57 are in Manipur and these educational institutions are entitled to provisions such as microscope, refrigerator, binocular, computers,
camera, etc.
It is informed that the Programme, in addition to equipment distribution, has the component of training and creating awareness of teachers as well as the students.
Exuding confidence that the Programme will fill the deficits of technical equipment in the schools as well as bring in the educational inputs on natural resources, the Chief Minister noted that it will also provide additional dimension of natural resources in the academic learning for the students.
Highlighting that survival of the people of North East region depends upon the ecology and natural resources of the region, he strongly advocated on harnessing and conservation of natural resources to meet the increasing demand of the people.
Apparently noting that operation of most modern gadgets, including some distributed today, depend on power supply O Ibobi asserted that construction of Tipaimukh Multi-purpose Dam will solve Manipur's problem to a large extent.
The pressing need of basic necessities of our population has to be understood and the need of development projects like Tipaimukh project with a capacity to generate 200 megawatt power has to be acknowledged, he added.
with regard to the Programme for DNA Clubs Schools, the Chief Minister expressed keen desire that more schools be covered under the programme as Manipur has more than 4500 schools of all categories.
Uripok AC MLA L Nandakumar Singh and Director CSIR: NEIST (Jorhat) Dr PG Rao graced the function as the guest of honour and president respectively.
The event was also attended by headmasters, coordinating teachers and students of 57 schools of Manipur enrolled as DNA Clubs Schools, advisory members of the Club and many other dignitaries from various departments.
