Power situation � a hindrance in setting up industries in state
CM distributes laboratory equipments

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today distributed different laboratory equipments worth one crore to 57 government schools which are enrolled as DNA Club Schools in a function held at the Officers' Club, Lamphelpat today.
The programme was sponsored by the National Bio-Resource Development Board of the Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi to promote awareness about bio resources and to enthuse students about the role of biotechnology in the NE region under the Prime Minister's 100 Days Programme.
The North East Institute of Science & Technology is the implementing agency of the scheme in the state.
The programme includes 57 schools in Manipur.
The schools are provided with equipments like microscopes, refrigerators, binoculars, computers and cameras under the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the programme will fill the deficit of technical equipment in the schools as well as bring in the educational inputs on natural resources.
The programme will provide additional dimension of natural resources in the academic learning for the students.
The CM also stated that the survival of the people of the NE region depends upon the ecology and natural resources of the region.
They should be harnessed and conserved to meet the increasing demand of the people.
Giving emphasis on the current power situation in the state, the CM asserted that construction of the Tipaimukh multipurpose Dam will solve the power problem of the state to a large extent.
The need of basic necessities of the people of the state has to be understood and the need of developmental projects like Tipaimukh project has to be acknowledged, he added.
The power crisis and acute shortage of power the state is facing at present is the main reason for companies, entrepreneurs to stay away from setting up industries in the state.
Whenever he proposed for setting up industries in the state in various meetings, the question of power availability was always put forward and it became the main hindrance in the process.
MLA, L Nandakumar and Dr PG Rao, Director CSIR: NEIST, Jorhat, Assam attended the function as presidium members.
Headmaster, teachers and students of the 57 schools and advisory committee members of the DNA club also attended the function.
