Imphal, July 22 2011:
A branch monitoring cell of the Dairy and Venture Development Programme, which is being implemented as a Central Sector Plan Scheme of the Government of India, has been opened at Thingboungjang (Slopeland) village in Sadar Hills today.
The head office of the Monitoring Cell has already been set up near ABC godown at Thangmeiband.
Along with opening of a branch office at Thingboungjang village in Sadar Hills today, it is expected that similar branch offices would come up in other districts of the State.
Through these branches, various schemes would be taken up to ensure self employment to educated unemployed youths of the State.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the branch monitoring cell as chief guest, former Minister Ngamthang Haokip observed that the projects will prove beneficial.
However there are many NGOs which could not go beyond the first instalment.
This is unfortunate.
Since the Government cannot reach out to the remote hill areas for various reasons, it is these NGOs which have to perform the task of the Government, he said.
Lack of dedication on the part of the NGOs has also impressed upon the public as well as the Government not to put too much trust on the activities of the NGOs, rued Ngamthang.
On the other hand, there is no culture of repaying the loan taken among the people in the hill areas.
It is because of such habit that the banks hesitate in providing further loan.
Therefore, NGOs in the hills should perform their work with dedication and the people should cultivate the habit of repaying loan, Ngamthang Haokip exhorted.
Presided over by Member of ADC Kangpokpi Seikholal Khongsai, co-ordinator of NIF (North East) Dr Natabar, Dr Deben of Veterinary Department and Scientist (Biomass) of Department of Science and Technology Dr Romes were also present and spoke as resource persons at the occasion.
