IW police to take up traffic drive

In order to check incidents of road mishaps during the ensuing Ningol Chakkouba and Diwali festivals, Imphal West district police is organising a four-day mobile court sitting with effect from Oct 21 to strictly implement certain safety norms and pull-up any erring riders.
According to a statement issued by Dr AK Jhalajit Singh, SP (Imphal West), the district police personnel would give emphasis to check various irregularities like driving vehicles without driving license, under-aged driving, vehicle owners allowing a minor or person without DL to drive his/her vehicle, driving without registration and insurance certificates, triple riding on two-wheeler vehicles, vehicles plying without displaying registration number, drunken driving and driving at excessive speed.

The police will also check driving/riding of two-wheeler vehicles without wearing helmets, overloading of vehicles, driving vehicles at speed which is dangerous to the public, use of mobile phones while driving, use of vehicles with tinted glass, wrong parking or double parking and disobeying traffic signs.
Noting instances of road mishaps that had claimed many precious lives during the past festivals, the IW SP urged the general public to cooperate and assist the police in curbing road mishaps and save precious lives during the ensuing Ningol Chakkouba and Diwali celebrations.
It also mentioned that the special drive is not taken up with the intention of disturbing the mood of the festivals but to check the alarming instances of road mishaps which can be avoided with a little thought and cooperation from all concerned.
