Thoubal, October 20 2014:
The Kuki Chiefs' Association (KCA) Gunpi Block of Chandel district has strongly opposed shifting of the site for construction of P/W from Theikhong river to Teijang village in Chandel district under the State Irrigation and Flood Control Department.
A press statement issued today by the Association strongly opposed shifting of the project site of Minor Irrigation and said that the farmers of Teijang village as well as farmers from the surrounding villages have been impatiently waiting for the said project to be implemented for many years as it would immensely benefit the farmers of the area.
The Chiefs' Association further said that such unthoughtful and selfish action of shifting a particular developmental work from a particular village to another could cause misunderstanding among the villagers and its surrounding villages.
While fervently appealing the authority concerned to look into the matter and deliver justice, the Association also alleged that the State Government is inciting communal disharmony in the area by this unjustified action and pledged to protest in the strongest term.
It is worth mentioning that the said project for construction of P/W on Theikong River at Teijang and another at Toupokpi was approved and the project fund was sanctioned by the Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India.
