Imphal, October 20 2014:
The result of Hiyanglam AC by-poll is evidence that the BJP or Prime Minister Modi wave is not having any impact in the State, Dy Chief Minister and MPCC President Gaikhangam said.
Addressing a press meet today at Congress Bhavan, Gaikhangam said that the assertion of the Congress party in the pre-poll campaign meetings that the BJP would not even come second in the by poll has turned out to be true.
The election result has once again proved that the truth triumphs, Gaikhangam said.
Although the BJP, confident to win the election, was making a lot of din about the Modi wave sweeping Manipur, the party ended up finishing third, he said.
Gaikhangam asserted that the election result is also a clear indication that people of the State have trust and confidence on the development initiatives of the Congress Govt led by Chief Minister O Ibobi.
Giving due acknowledgement to the voters of Hiyanglam Assembly Constituency for the victory, the MPCC president said the victory is the result of the close coordination of party leaders and workers under CM O Ibobi.
Although the BJP resorted to wild allegations against the Congress during the campaigning, people of Hiyanglam AC, who are sensible, had the sagacity to judiciously filter the wrong out of the right charges, he said while appreciating the wisdom of the people.
Emphasising the supremacy of the people in a democracy, Gaikhangam said neither a party nor the Govt would survive without people on their side.
He also said that it was very reasonable that the Congress candidate got 9008 votes in the by-poll.
Fielding queries from media persons, the Dy CM said the BJP would never have an impact in the State in the general election of 2017 although the party has gained footholds in other States.
The BJP has failed to make its impact in the State in the last Lok Sabha election as well as the by-poll.
Politics is synonymous to defeat and win.
There is no need for regret.
As such, the Congress leaders and workers are holding the belief that there is no other means than to go along with the public, he added.
