Lamka, November 15:
As part of its anti-gutkha drive, Churachandpur District Students' Union today set ablaze a huge quantity of Talab, a Gutkha/tobacco product which they claim was responsible in leading juvenile students to further addiction.
More than 53 shop owners selling the banned product have been pulled up and fines were imposed before they were allowed to walk free with a pledge not to vend the products again.
CDSU also made a point on the sidelines of the event that it will continue its anti-Mayek drive and warned that any school flouting their orders will ultimately face a closure.
It may be noted that the student body had, a couple of days back, blackened all signboards and hoardings exhibiting any Mayek script in and around the township.
Leaders of CDSU also claimed that they were all set to host a crucial meeting of ATSUM tomorrow at Synod Hall here, wherein reservation, Mayek issues and recruitment rules of the state will be discussed.
Meanwhile, Dam Action Committee which has imposed an indefinite bandh on the roads communicating Singngat and Lamka has agreed to compensate all the damages cased by its volunteers to the Nazareath English High School, Phaibem on Nov.
