Manipur Pavilion Director M Meghachandra Singh said here today that the handicraft and food products of Manipur would be favorite items for the customers of this year's India International Trade Fair.
"We are expecting more sale proceeds this year than the previous year in which we could collect Rs.21.16 lakh from our 19-unit State Pavilion", he added.
"Wood carving, embroidery and food products being displayed at the Manipur Pavilion drew a large crowd on the opening day of the Fair yesterday".
Manipur Pavilion Director said, "On the opening day of the fair yesterday, 24 units of Manipur Pavilion could sell their products worth Rs.85,265.The India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO) organized this 26th edition of the Trade Fair.
Besides organizing this annual event, the ITPO also organizes different trade exhibitions in the country.
The ITPO is organizing 8-day North East Trade Expo at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, which will be a showcase exclusively for the North East States of the country.
Manipur Day: The Manipur Day Celebration of the ongoing India International Trade Fair 2006 will be held on November 16 at 4.30 pm at the Lal Chowk Open Air Theatre, Pragati Maidan with Manipur Chief Minister O.Ibobi Singh as chief guest and Principal Secretary (Commerce & Industry) P.C.Lawmkunga as president.
The main programme of the one and a half-hour function will be the lighting of the lamp, welcome address, speech of the chief guest and the president followed by a cultural progra mme.
Main items of the cultural programme Lai Haraoba Maibi Dance, Kabui Dance, Thang-Ta, Dhol Dholak Cholom and Raas Lila.
Tomorrow, many Manipuris with their traditional dress could be seen at the venue.
Mangi visits Manipur pavilion: Manipur Commerce and Industries Minister N Mangi Singh this afternoon visited the Manipur Pavilion of the ongoing India International Trade Fair 2006 at Pragati Maidan here and inspected the exhibits of all the participating units.
Encouraging all the participants from Manipur, the Minister asked them to work hard for improvement of State's economy and also to bring the laurel of the State.
He also appreciated the staff of the State Directorate of Commerce and Industries for their effective management in organizing the Manipur Pavilion in the Trade Fair 2006.
