Imphal, November 15:
Asserting that Chief Minister O Ibobi cannot fool all the people all the time, several civil organisations including the UNC, NPMHR, ACTIP, CCDD, CATD, ANSAM, ZU, NPO, CNPO and many others have called for a 10 day economic blockade on NH-39 and NH-53 beginning from midnight of November 16 till midnight of November 25.A statement issued by ACTIP on behalf of all the organisations concerned contended that the proposed agitation is to save the Barak river and 13,161.2 sq kms of tribal and ancestral lands belonging to indigenous peoples of the region.
The decision to impose the economic blockade on both National Highways was in accordance with the resolutions adopted during the joint meeting of the organisations concerned campaigning against the Tipaimukh project on November 6 at Senapati community hall following the failure of the State Government to listen to the people's call for scrapping of the genocidal and environmentally disastrous Tipaimukh Project, it said.
It further disclosed that more severe agitation would follow if the State Government continues with its indifferent attitude to the voice of the people.
Cautioning that anybody defying the blockade on both the National highways may risk their own properties and lives, the statement warned that the State Government would be held solely responsible for any untoward incident during the course of the agitation.
