Imphal, November 15:
Strongly condemning the alleged extra-judicial killing of N Binoy alias Khaiba of Keirenphabi, the JAC formed against the killing has drawn up a list of demands for the Government to fulfil.
Contending that Khaiba was killed by the police commandos of Imphal West while he was on his way home after being released from Sajiwa jail, the JAC in a statement today said that the commandos involved in the killing should be punished according to law and their services should be terminated.
The JAC also demanded Rs 5 lakhs as compensation to be paid to the family members of the deceased youth while the Government should give a standing assurance that such killings will not recur in the future.
If the demands raised by the JAC are not met by November 16, then the mortal remains of Khaiba would not be taken taken back and an indefinite Statewide bandh would be imposed from 6 am of November 17, it warned.
The JAC further warned that bandh violators should be held responsible for any unwanted incident.
Urging the people, NGOs and voluntary organisations to extend their support, the JAC also rubbished the claim of the police that Khaiba was killed when he tried to snatch a gun from the commandos.
Coming out strongly against the killing of Khaiba, AMSU in a statement said that killing after arrest, enforced disappearances etc have been regular affairs in the State but now a trend has also emerged wherein, security personnel have embarked on a personal campaign.
Such a trend has sown the seeds of whether the State Government has set up such a unit to pursue their personal agenda, said the student body.
By giving patronage to such practices, the Government is inviting trouble, said AMSU and added that it is totally against the law to kill someone who has just been released from jail after serving his term under the NSA for one year.
The commandos involved in the incident should be punished, said the student body and warned the Government to action time before the angst of the people explodes.
The United People's Front has also strongly condemned the incident and warned that if the guilty personnel are let off, then it would not remain quiet.
In a statement UPF said that it would support all future course of action taken up by the people of Keirenphabi in connection with the killing.
