A beauty pageant for the Northeastern States christened Miss Jatropha North East 2006 will be held on November 23 at BOAT.
General secretary of Friends For Future (FFF) organising the event, Pangambam Premananda speaking to reporters on the beauty contest noted that the event is being organised with an aim to educate people on the viability of bio-fuels extracted from jatropha plants against the fast depleting fuel reserves on Earth.
He further disclosed that FFF has planted jatropha in about 100 hectares of land in Jiribam.
Saying that FFF has been planning to plant jatropha in another 200 hectares of land with an eye to open a unit to extract bio-fuels from the plant, he informed that FFF had signed an agreement with a firm based at New Delhi to sell and buy seeds of jatropha.
The winner of the beauty contest which would be participated by three beauties from each of the North Eastern States would be awarded Rs 50,000 in cash while the first runners-up and second runners-up would be given Rs 30,000 and 20,000 respectively, Premananda mentioned.
Moreover, prizes would also be awarded to the winners of the six sub-titles included in the beauty contest.
