Taking grim note of frequent cases of Government officials and staff not attending offices under various excuses Sugnu Assembly constituency MLA and Chairman of Planning and Development Authority (PDA) K Ranjit today warned employees posted in Sub Deputy Collector's office, Waikhong of stringent action.
Duty negligence on the part of the employees, particularly officials assigned responsible tasks would not be tolerated under any circumstance and prompt punitive action would be initiated, said the local representative during his presidential address on the occasion of inaugurating the newly constructed SDC, Waikhong office located within Sugnu AC today.
the newly constructed SDC office building was inaugurated with Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam and MLA K Ranjit as the chief guest and functional president respectively.
Commissioner (Revenue) P Saratchandra and Deputy Commissioner (Thoubal) Ch Ruhinikumar graced the occasion as the guests of honour.
The SDC office established in the early 1990s had to be newly constructed as the previous building developed cracks and was highly inappropriate for administrative works thereby inconveniencing the people of Sugnu and parts of Hiyanglam Assembly segments.
The office covers 21 revenue villages of the two ACs, majority of which falls within Sugnu AC stretching from Wabagai Lamkhai till Serou and is said to be the third such administrative office in Kakching sub-division of Thoubal district.
The new office complex comprise of the SDC office block and residential quarter of the SDC built at a total cost of Rs 11 lakh with the office block consuming Rs 10 lakhs.
Responding to suggestion for providing staff quarters through repairing/renovation of the old structure, further development of the office compound and proper fencing around it conveyed by the Thoubal DC Ruhinikumar in his speech, the chief guest Govindas Konthoujam assured to look into the matter.
He also instructed PWD officials to begin works for repairing of the old structure within this week on priority basis and punctuated his remarks by appealing to the Sugnu AC electorates to support Kangujam Ranjit insisting that new political scenario in the State's context require energetic, sincere and young blood.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Ranjit insisted that with the provision of the SDC's living quarter and proposal for staff quarters duly approved by the Works Minister there should be no more excuses of the employees citing bandhs or strikes as ground of not reporting for duty.
Recalling his days as a common citizen, Ranjit said he sometimes felt agitated when processes for acquiring income or Scheduled Castes certificates was either delayed or caused inconveniences to the deserving public.
Work for the new office complex began on December 28, 2005 and will be manned by 17 staff.
Even though such offices located in the valley districts do not have provision for construction of living quarters of staff/officials, the Waikhong SDC complex is informed to be a special cases owing to its distance from the State capital.
Ranjit also announced inclusion of 500 flood affected families of Sugnu AC for provision of relief materials and inauguration of 6 market sheds within a short notice.
