The Ukhrul Block Programme Management Unit of District Health Mission Society (DHMS), Ukhrul has organised a series of day-long awareness programme on theme of 'Institutional delivery as well as Ante-Natal check up (ANC) immunisation from November 8 to 12 at Shangshak Khullen, Litan Sareikhong, Hoomi village and Kachai village.
Taken up as part of the BCC/IED programme of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), from these awareness programmes, altogether 152 women in the age group of 18 to 40 years have been identified by the ASHA members concerned of the respective villages for further health monitoring.
Senior Health Supervisor of District Immunisation Section, Ukhrul Shaikapla and staff nurse of PHSC, Leisan Anice were the main speakers during these awareness programmes.
They emphasised on the importance of undergoing ante-natal checkup up for safe delivery, merits and demerits of institutional delivery, necessity of BCC, Polio, DPT, Measles and Tetanus immunisation which protect children from six killer diseases namely Tuberculosis, Poliomyelitis, Diphtheria Pertussis, Whooping cough, Measles and Tetanus.
The speakers also stressed on diet of the mothers, checking of BP, anaemia, registration in the nearest hospital, taking of iron and folic acid during pregnancy as well as on how to look after themselves by the would be mother and their new born baby including taking note of the height and weight of the baby at the time of delivery.
Participating in these awareness programmes, Ukhrul Block Programme Manager S Wontharla, Block Finance Manager S Songachan and Account Manager of PHC Khangkhui R Ramkahao also spoke on various welfare programmes initiated by the UPA Government.
The team had also interacted with the headman and Village Health and Sanitation Committee.
