Imphal, November 14 2009:
"The class boycott agitation in the valley districts of Manipur is very much against the child's rights," said Teengchim, a class-VI student of Khoken Junior High School at Khoken village under Sadar Hills in Senapati district.
Teengchim was addressing a gathering during the Children's Day celebration on Saturday at Khoken village.
The minor girl advocated to give peace a chance to reign once again in the trouble-torn Manipur during her public address.
Organised by World Vision, Sadar Hills chapter, the Khoken Junior High School, children walked for 2 kilometres for the sake of peace in Manipur under the theme, "Peace, a right of every Child".
"Children's Day is one occasion where children enjoy the day with sweets and balloons and also by organising various colourful games but owing to the prevailing situation in our state we have decided to walk for peace instead of the conventional way of observing Children's Day," said a teacher of the school.
Speaking on the occasion was Solomon Kamei, the World Vision, Sardar Hills representative who expressed his grim view about the state of Manipur.
He said that the problem in Manipur is compounding every passing day.
Kenjit Singh, the Head Master of the Khoken Junior High School who was the chief guest on the occasion opined on the ongoing boycotting of classes and said that guardians of students have a vital role in the impasse.
He exhorted that at any cost peace should be the foundation for every development of a society.
Meanwhile, the students of the school in their school uniform rallied for two kilometres holding placards pleading for peace in the state of Manipur.
