State electricity department is going to introduce remote control street lamps in Imphal streets with a view to save power, a source from the department said today.
The source informed Hueiyen Lanpao that the new system of illuminating the streets will be control at a control office with internal system.
That is switching the street lamps and putting off will be control with internal link up.
The first phase of the planned will be taken up in some important streets and in the second phase, the department is targeting to introduce the new system on the streets across the state.
The new system of illuminating street is based on the technology used in the mobile phone connection and general packet radio service system.
It can also be operated manually or with automatic switch system.
The process of illumination will also help in reduction of carbon dioxide emission in the lighting.
The control servers will be installed at an appropriate place.
For the time being the authority is yet to confirm the place where the control server is to be installed.
The place will be decided at the earliest, the source said.
The department is considering for handing over the work for installation of the system to Consortium Company, one of the leading software company of the country.
