Problems and issues confronting by the women living with HIV was discussed Saturday in a function organised by the Social Awareness Service Organisation (SASO) as part of observance of International Women Day at Manipur Press Club, Major Khul.
Speaking as chief guest of the occasion, programme director of Imphal west AIDS Prevention and Control Unit, Dr Luckson said in the state instants of torturing women by women is more than that torture by men-folk.
In-laws ill-treated their daughter who married her HIV infected sons after the death of their sons.
K Birjit, president of SASO who presided over the function observed that instead of discussion on the grievances related by the victim women on ill-treatment towards them, it would better to chalk out the misunderstanding between the two by seating together.
The problems facing by a normal widow is far better than that of widow left with HIV after her husband died of AIDS, he said.
S Sobita, secretary of Women Action for Development who attended the function as guest of honour encourage the women living with HIV and said instead of blaming of ill-treatment, they should work hard and search for a income earning way so that they could lead an independent life.
