Spelling out infrastructure developments proposed in the hill districts of Manipur, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh said Ukhrul will be converted into a model town with adequate funding in the next financial year.
Speaking as chief guest at the one day Political Training cum Conference organised by Ukhrul District Congress Committee at Ukhrul Town Hall today, Ibobi said compared to implementation of several welfare projects in other hill districts, similar activities for Ukhrul district are hampered due to intervention from underground outfits.
He fervently appealed to the public of Ukrhul to extend their cooperation to the Government in expediting the welfare projects.
Conveying the Centre's approval for constructing a modern 50 bedded hospital at each of the hill district headquarters, the CM said in addition to the Rs 50 crore new district hospital the present hospital in Ukhrul will be renovated/ repaired for which Rs 50 lakhs had been deposited with the construction agency - Manipur Police Housing Corporation.
Mentioning that the SPF Govt will be completing three years in office in March, he also informed that Rs two crore each have been earmarked for constructing a college and a secondary level educational institute in the district.
Funds have also reserved for construction of a Mini stadium, he added.
Regarding road transportation, the CM highlighted Govt plans to double lane Imphal to Ukhrul as part of the National Highway 53 expansion, widening of Kohima-Moreh road on the NH-39 to four lane and double lanning of NH-50 road linkinglmphal to Jiribam.
In Ukhrul district alone inter-village road connectivity would be established under an estimated cost of Rs 75.12 crore funding from the DONER Ministry, mentioned the CM detailing the roads as Mahadev to Somdal via Tolloi and from Tolloi Junction till Phadang.
On electrification, he announced installation of a 33/11 KV power sub-station at Namrei for additional extension of power supply at Jessami areas which is currently provided power from Nagaland State.
The DONER Ministry is slated to release necessary fund for the sub-station, he added.
In his presidential speech, Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing appealed for public cooperation to enable the Congress-led Secular Progressive Front Government successfully implement various welfare projects.
