The newly elected Wokha Town Council (WTC) Members have been sworn in here at 11 am in the jam-packed conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner today.
The Wokha Deputy Commissioner, E Ezung had administered the swearing-in-ceremony.
M Odyuo (BJP) was sworn-in as new Chairman of the newly constituted WTC while Khontsemo Kithan of NPF as Vice Chairman.
The whole elected Councilors along with Agriculture and Horticulture Minister Dr TM Lotha, who is Ex-Officio Member, with a voice vote elected the two leaders be the Chairman and the Vice Chairman of the WTC in front of the Deputy Commissioner.
Earlier, Odyuo's name for the Chairmanship of the WTC was proposed by Ajamo Ezung (BJP) and seconded by Khontsemo Kithan.
And Khontsemo Kithan's name to be Vice Chairman was proposed by Yampo Jami (BJP) and seconded by Motsuthung Tsonglao (BJP).
It may be mentioned that the BJP won a landslide victory in the recently held Wokha Town Council election by winning 10 with one BJP-backed Independent out of the total 15 seats.
NPF managed to win two seats leaving the remaining two to Independents.
Congratulating the newly sworn-in Chairman and Vice Chairman and Members of the WTC, Dr Lotha said they had unanimously elected Khontsemo Kitha of NPF to be the Vice Chairman of WTC, despite the BJP having an absolute majority to form on its own.
"Because we have to accommodate NPF as we are partners in the coalition DAN Government in the State to show to the people that the coalition Government is intact and working with full confidence and understanding," he explained.
Earlier in a meeting in the BJP office before swearing-in-ceremony, Dr Lotha also advised the new Councilors to collectively work for the uplift of the Wokha town.
He informed them that they all became responsible people from today not only for their respective wards but also for the whole of Wokha town.
"The future of the Wokha town lies in your hands," he told them.
Stating that the DAN Government was behind them, the Minister also assured he would discuss with State Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Minister-in-charge of Local Self Government Noke Konyak to "give a special emphasis to WTC where BJP and NPF are working hand in hand for the overall development of the Town".
Dr Lotha also congratulated Returning Officer and his Staff in Wokha district for conducting Town Council elections in a most peaceful manner.
