In his first visit to Churachandpur district after being elected MP from Outer Manipur constituency in the last general elections, Mani Charenamei today exhorted the students to specialise in their chosen field and aim for the top as recent politics of disinvestment and downsizing are making jobs more and more difficult to get in the organised sector.
He was speaking as chief guest of the 58th Foundation Day celebration cum annual meritorious awards distribution function of the Siamsinpawlpi (SSPP) at YPA Hall, Upper Lamka here today morning.
Charenamei also lauded efforts of the SSPP in cultivating young talents and gave away meritorious awards to 26 persons who excelled in their fields.
He also released the 41st Siamsinpawl Annual magazine.
Later speaking to media persons at PTC Hall, Upper Lamka, the MP emphasized on the need to find an alternative means of livelihood other than jhum cultivation in the hill areas and expressed deep regfet at the wanton destruction of forest in areas of Manipur.
Horticulture and plantation farming could be explored as an alternative, he said and added that he had already taken the case to the NEC and DONER Minister PR Kyndiah.
He also spoke glowingly about the tourism potential of the area, but said that preservation and care of the forest is of utmost importance for realising that potential.
He also said that efforts are on to increase the number of flights in the North East and particularly in Manipur and said that prepaid mobile phones would be introduced in the State by March this year.
