Muslims of Phoubakchao village have appealed to the outlawed KYKL organisations to withdraw the outfit's insistence that Phoubakchao locals prohibit all activities of the armed PULP organisation.
Conveying the appeal of the villagers representatives of Peace Committee, Muslim religious leaders and social activists today addressed a media briefing held at the Manipur Press Club during which they expressed that KYKL cadres abstain from targeting people of Phoubakchao.
According to convenor of the Peace Committee Karimuddin highlighted that as follow action KYKL had slapped monetary demands against some Muslims in addition to firing at the houses of two individuals.
Disclosing that some individuals had received extortion notes amounting to Rs 2 lakh from the KYKL, the convenor urged the armed group to pin point those persons involved in activities detrimental to the interest of the KYKL so that the villagers could initiate appropriate action.
The KYKL had been insisting that Phoubakchao villagers desist from entertaining approaches of PULF as well as resist their(PULF) activities in the area failing which stern action would be initiated.
President of Shariat Ulama, Manipur Moulana Sahid Ahmad expressed that as citizens of Manipur the Muslim people do crave for peace and are striving to strengthen fraternal bond with other communities.
Appealing to all concerned to refrain from any activities that could cause harm to the Muslim people; he also urged members/ cadres of Muslim organisations to act with sanity.
Representatives of Masjids, legal practitioners and other religious bodies were also present at the media briefing.
