Strongly resenting the indifferent attitude of the Education Minister and officials concerned towards the grievances of Ukhrul Higher Secondary School (UHSS) the students have closed down the school indefinitely since yesterday and burnt the effigy of the Education Minister today at the gate of UHSS.
The charter of demands include, full-fledged Principal and Vice-Principal, immediate posting of adequate teaching faculty, to immediately revoke the transfer order of the senior most lecturer ( as Principal in charge in the school is not even one month), provision for library and laboratory equipments and immediate construction of kitchen for boys and girls and other infrastructure including furniture for the Hostel.
The students are also protesting against the transfer order of the Prjncipdi-in-charge of the school.
The students said that though they have made their grievances public and even submitted a memorandum to the Education Minister three days back, there has been no positive response.
To protest against the indifferent attitude of the Govt to their plight, the students announced that they would boycott Teachers' Day celebration.
Moreover a teacher of the school had taken the keys of the school along with her to Imphal and she has been absent for the past two months campaigning to remove the present Principal-in-charge, said one student.
Hunphun Katamnao Long (Ukhrul Students Union) on the other hand said that until a full-fledged Principal is appointed, the present arrangements should continue.
Any attempt to change the set up would be resisted,' said the student body and added that they are ready to launch intense agita'tions.
With the HKL now spear heading the protest and indefinitely closing down the school, their next target would be the Zonal Education Office fol 1 owed by 24 hours Ukhrul District bandh on September 12.If there is still no positive response then they would close down all the Govt offices in the district, warned HKL.
For any untoward incident, the Govt should be held solely responsible.
