Rally cum public meeting against AFSPA held

Several organizations namely SABCA Sinter Team; Social Action Committee; New Life Foundation; Samaritan Resource Center; Conflict Widow's Forum; Domestic Violence Survivors' Forum; Women Action for Development; North East Dialogue Forum; Social Upliftment Center; International Cane Ministry and Integrated Rural Development Center jointly took out a mass rally under the theme 'Repeal Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), 1958: Stop Genocide Crimes Against Humanity and War Crime' today at Sagang Bazar.
A public meeting was also held after the rally at the bazar and adopted certain resolutions.
The meeting cum rally was attended by St Kom, advisor of Sagang Bazar Board; Lairamchao Kom, chief of Kheikakbi village; Wommeithang Kom, advisor of Sagang Area Administrative Council; Inaocha, Pradhan, Borayangbi GP; W Shyamjai, president of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU); U Nabakishor Singh, convenor of North East Dialogue Forum and Sobita Mangsatabam, secretary of Women Action for Development as Presidium Members.
Speaking to media persons, Sobita Mangsatabam said people of the State have been reeling under various crimes, violence and atrocities since the draconian AFSPA was imposed.
But the Central Government is in no mood to repeal the Act from the State despite stiff opposition from the people.
She informed that there are 30 cases of crimes against women and children reported in the current month with six women killed and 25 cases of domestic violence.
The meeting resolved to file charge sheet against the cases reported so far in the current month and to ensure deliverance of justice within three months' time; to implement Article III of Geneva Convention Common in the State; to urge Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to meet his promise of repealing AFSPA which he made during his visit to the State and few others.
