Multiple blasts mar R-Day, 2 AR men hurt

Imphal, January 27 2014:
As many as four bombs exploded at different places of lmphal on the Republic Day yesterday while two AR personnel including an officer escaped with injuries in an attack by unidentified militants suspected to be PLA.
One IED exploded on Imphal river bed at Babupara, a little distance away from 1 st MR parade ground, the main venue of the Republic day celebration at around 7.40 am.
Notably, Babupara is one of the high security zones of Imphal city, being home to a large number of quarters occupied by Ministers and ML As.
Extra security measures were also taken up specially for the Republic Day celebration.
However, the explosion caused no casualty.
After a gap of just one hour, three other bombs exploded suc- cessively.
The second bomb exploded on Imphal river bed near Yaiskul Range ground at around 9 am.
This spot is also close to 1st MR parade ground.
This time too, there was no casualty.
Another powerful bomb went off atop the Sangakpham hill at around 10.10 am.
The fourth bomb exploded at the foot of Chinga hill at round 11 am.
The bomb which exploded just a few metres away from Manipur College gate was an IED.
There was no report of any casualty.
Even though four bombs exploded at different parts of Imphal, the explosions caused little disturbance to the Republic Day celebration.
On the other hand, suspected PLA cadres attacked troops of 21st Assam Rifles at Aishi village, near Indo-Myanmar border under Molcham police station in Chandel district at around 9 pm yesterday leaving one officer and another personnel injured.
The suspected PLA cadres attacked the AR team using explosives and automatic rifles.
Targeting the AR troops who were patrolling the area on foot, the militants first set off an IED followed by a volley of gun fire.
Major Ghosh and Rifleman NR Choudhury were injured in the attack.
Both of them were evacuated to the Leimakhong military hospital of Red Shield Division.
