Rani Gaidinliu's Birth anniversary observed

The 99th birth anniversary of freedom fighter Haipei Rani Gaidinliu was celebrated under the aegis of Kabui Mothers' Association in a solemn function at GM Hall Sunday.
The State level function organised under the theme 'Relevance of Rani Gaidinliu in contemporary society' was attended by Dy CM Gaikhangam; Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam; Works and Transport Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar; MLA N Biren Singh; President of Zeliangrong Union (AMN), Amu Kamei and President of KAMA, Kakomlunglu Kamei as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Dy CM Gaikhangam said that Rani Gaidinliu was not only a mother to the Zeliangrong community but to all people of the State.
The movement Gaidinliu spearheaded was not for her personal gain but for the general interest of the people.
Her contributions for the protection and welfare of the people and the land should not be forgotten by the present generation, Gaikhangam said.
Underlining that Rani Gaidinliu rendered services to the people before self, Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar urged all concerned to emulate the great leader, Rani Gaidinliu.
The Kabui Mothers' Association has submitted a memorandum to the dignitaries attending the function.
Amongst others, the KAMA urged the Govt to declare Jan 26 as State Holiday, to erect a statue of Rani Gaidinliu at any of the traffic islands in Imphal area and to construct a market named after Rani Gaidinliu in Imphal.
General Secretary of KAMA, Ranjita Golmei said that construction of a guest house at Luangkao (Nungkao) village in Tamenglong district, the birth place of Rani Gaidinliu is in progress.
