AR celebrates R-Day

On the auspicious occasion of 65th Republic Day, Flag Hoisting Ceremony and distribution of sweets to the villagers was organised by 3 Assam Rifles of 28 Sect AR under the aegis HQ IGAR (South) at Samtal Salient on Jan 26 .
The National flag was hoisted at Changjal village by one Solet Haokip, a 108 year old man who was an active soldier in the Indian National Army and fought for freedom of the country along with Subash Chander Bose, said a statement issued by the PRO of IGAR (S) .
The functions included a painting competition with the theme 'I Love My India' for the school children at Sehlon, Tuitong and Old Samtal villages.
The event was aimed to give a message for peace and harmony and encourage creativity among the children.
It was an open forum in which more than 70 students from various schools of Samtal Salient eagerly participated.
Top ten painters were awarded prizes including consolation prizes to all the participants to boost their morale and encourage their creativity, it said.
In another endeavour, 40 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector AR under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) presented stationery and sports items to students of Keithelmanbi Junior School, ICeithelmanbi Village on the occasion of 65th Republic Day as part of Military civic action programme on Jan 26.The event was graced by Brig MK Das, SM**, VSM Commander 9 Sector Assam Rifles who distributed stationery and sports items to the students and teachers in presence of Commandant 40 Assam Rifles, Principal of the school and guardians of the students, the PRO statement added.
