MLA RK Anand has strongly advocated inclusion of Thang-Ta in school syllabus so that the younger generations can learn this ancient martial art form.
The MLA was speaking as chief guest in an exhibition cum Thang-Ta demonstration at MDU Hall organised by the Hueyel Langlon Training as part of their year-long platinum jubilee celebration being sponsored by the Yelhou Inat Shindam Lup Manipur .
MLA RK Anand said that Thang-Ta is an indispensable component of the Manipuri culture besides being art by itself.
It was in-depth knowledge of Thang-Ta and expertise of Manipuri people on this martial art that Manipur successfully defended itself against all external aggression through ages of history.
Thang-Ta has also pedagogic elements as learning Thang-Ta entails maintaining strict discipline, acquiring of good manners and keeping both the mental and physical health fit, RK Anand said.
To promote this ancient martial art form, it is imperative to include Thang-Ta in school syllabus.
For promotion of Thang-Ta, it demands a concrete State policy.
Moreover, every citizen should shoulder due responsibility to promote Thang-Ta at the local, district and State levels for Thang-Ta has close association with the distinct identity of Manipuri nation.
Anand assured that the matter of incorporating Thang-Ta in the school syllabus and curriculum would be put up in the State Assembly very soon.
In his presidential speech, Rajkumar Rajendra endorsed RK Anand's proposal for inclusion of Thang-Ta in school syllabus.
Neglecting Thang-Ta would amount to ignoring one most precious jewel.
Thang-Ta is a form of vigorous physical and mental exercise and also a means to defend oneself, Rajendra said.
The gathering was also attended by working president of the All Manipur School Welfare Association Th Gojendro, president of the All Manipur Taekwondo Association Y Khemchand and other maestros of Thang-Ta.
Photographs and documents related to Thang-Ta were displayed at the exhibition where Thang-Ta artistes presented many dazzling performances.
