Imphal, December 16 2016:
Reacting to the news report published in different newspapers on December 16 that no Assam Rifles personnel were on ROP duty on NH-102 and did not respond to the distress calls of the police, the PRO of Assam Rifles has issued a statement, dubbing the report 'false and mischievous' .
In a statement issued to the press today, the PRO said that the allegations and fabricated reports were engineered by inimical forces to create disturbance and malaise in the environment.
The PRO stated that the ambush site was 3 kms away from Lokchao COB and 8 kms from Khongkhan COB on NH 102 and added that there was no road opening operation planned on the road from Tengnoupal to Moreh on December 15 .
"Road opening and convoy protection is a specialised operation which is planned considering the requirement and is time specific to avoid routine setting in", said the PRO and added that the ambush was over in three and five minutes and the Assam Rifles QRTs reached the ambush site within 15 to 20 minutes, the earliest time frame considering the distance.
Besides sanitisation, domination and search of the area, an ambulance was provided to evacuate injured police personnel by Assam Rifles immediately and the injured personnel were also administered first aid at Tengnoupal COB before moving them to Imphal for further treatment, clarified the PRO further.
