Imphal, December 16 2016:
The Manipur National Democratic Front (MNDF) has strongly condemned the twin attacks carried out by militants along Imphal-Moreh highway in Tengnoupal district which killed three policemen yesterday.
MNDF vice-president and former Minister Bijoy Koijam decried that the paramilitary forces deployed near the ambush sites did not respond quickly enough.
He went on to question whether the Central Government directed Central paramilitary forces deployed in the State not to take any action against unlawful activities carried out by NSCN-IM.
He was speaking at a reception function held at the party's Babupara office in honour of Yumnam Romola who contested the last Assembly election in Keisham- thong AC.
Welcoming Romola, MNDF president Priyokumar said that the party was set up by like minded individuals who felt the need of a strong regional party in the State.
He also paid homage to all the police personnel killed in yesterday's ambushes.
Bijoy Koijam said that Yumnam Romola has been appointed president of the party's women front.
She would contest the forthcoming Assembly election in Keishamthong AC on MNDF ticket.
Decrying the alleged failure of the paramilitary forces to react quickly enough to yesterday's ambush, Bijoy Koijam questioned whether there was any secret understanding between the paramilitary forces deployed in Manipur and NSCN-IM which is under a cease fire agreement with the Government of India.
MNDF vice-president MA Jabar decried the failure of Lilong AC MLA Abdul Nasir to resolve the issue of Lilong Nungei amicably.
