Imphal, October 15 2019:
Under the Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme (PMNDP), 9 dialysis machines will be installed at RIMS.
If the machines begins operation at RIMS, the capacity for haemodialysis at the institute will increase thus providing a ray of hope for the patients who are facing kidney failure.
It may be mentioned that there are only 6 dialysis machines currently inside RIMS and only a few patients can undergo haemodialysis in a day.
The number of patients who require dialysis everyday in the State is quite large which results in the poor patients, who failed to get haemodialysis at RIMS, seeking dialysis at private hospitals at huge expenses.

Around the world, around 1.4 million and 2.4 million people die over the world due to Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) and Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) respectively, he said stressing on the importance of haemodialysis for patients suffering from the above two kidney ailments.

Explaining about kidney failure, Dr Takhellambam Brojen said that for patients with AKI, their kidney condition can be improved after intensive treatment for a few months but for CKD patients, those who have reached the 5th stage, the only options left are either kidney transplant or dialysis.
He further announced that 9 additional dialysis machines while be installed at RIMS under PMNDP and explained that if the said machine become operational, then it will be a boon for the patients with kidney failure as the intake capacity for dialysis will be increased.
However, the nephrologist failed to provide a specific time or period for the installation of the new machines.
