Imphal, August 14 2011:
The general strike called by the North East underground outfits as well as the Joint Co-ordination Committee of seven armed organisations of Manipur has come into force.
With the underground outfits calling for a boycott of the Independence Day celebration as well as the general strike, security has been intensified in and around Imphal during the last few days, with frisking and checking of passers at the roads and lanes of Imphal.
Different undeground outfits operating in the North East region of India, have jointly decided to boycott the Indian Independence Day.
Together with the boycott call, the UG outfits have called a general strike 5.30 am of August 15 in the entire North Eastern region, conveyed a joint press issued by the militant outfits.
However, essential services like medical, electricity, water supply, fire services and the press would be exempted from the purview of the general strike.
The militant organizations alleged that the Government of India has been trying to entrap the people and the freedom fighters in the name of peace talk and the so-called mainstream.

We are fighting against the alleged colonial India for this obligation of national sovereignty and will be fighting for it till the end", the outfits pledged.
