Man, woman hurt in clash

Imphal, August 14 2011:
Dispute over a development work between two closely related individuals, both with political ambition, has resulted in a grievous head injury to one Taorem Subon (55) of Chanam Sandrok Makha Leikai and minor injury on another woman following violent repercussion to the initial incident.
According to an informed source (uncle) Thongam Tony (42) of Thiyam Konjin and (nephew) Thongam Gopen (35) of Chanam Sandrok exchanged heated words as the latter opposed the former taking up development work of repairing a river bank at Chanam Sandrok area at around 3 pm today.
even as the uncle and nephew threatened and intimidated one another, two rival supporters namely Taorem Subon and Takhellambam Babuchand (50) joined the melee consequently leading to the 50-year old hacking Subon on the head with a sharp weapon.
Subon is informed to be undergoing treatment at JN Hospital with head injuries that required at least 10 stitches.
The injured woman identified as Ningombam (O) Tombisana w/o N Sanatomba has also been admitted to the same hospital.
Even though Irilbung police station personnel managed to control the situation from going out of hand a case has been registered and further investigation underway.
till the time of filing this report there is no information about any arrest in connection with the incident .
