Custom and Tradition Day observed

The 8th Custom and Tradition Day was observed by 9 Organisation at the auditorium of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy today.
Agriculture Minister Ph Parijat was the chief guest of the function.
A book entitled, Luchingba Kanhaimacha written by Mangisana was released by the Minister in the function.
Later, Cash awards and certificates were distributed to Korouhanba Arts Performing Centre, Khangjrakpam Malemnganbi Devi, L Langlen, Chingkhei Ningthou Sheishak Sheithya Layenglon, L Suresh, Mohori, Silapati, Ananda, Sanatomba, Salai and H Shyamkesho Amaiba, Amang Haokip, Kunjo Pungdongbam.
Monetray help was also provided to a fatherless child in the function.
Cultural programmes of different commu nities were also presented in the function.
Speaking at the occasion, Ph Parijat said that as there are some controversies regarding the creation of Sadar Hills, the State Government is taking time in carving out the Sub-division as a full fleged district from the existing Senapati district.
Saying that having its own District Council is the clear indication of becoming Sadar Hills a district in the near future, the Minister said that the State Government is trying to resolve the issues raised by other communities in this regard.
Speaking at the function, Rose Mangsi Haokip said that the people of Sadar Hills are demanding for a district and not an independant homeland.
The people of the Sub-division have been demanding for a separate district for 40 years since Koireng became the Chief Minister of the State.
But it has not been materialised till date, she added.
Saying that creation of Sadar Hills district would benefit people of all communities, Rose Mangsi Haokip noted that the demand must not be highlighted on ethnic and communal grounds.
