Speaking on the occasion, Thokchom Suresh said that Patriots' Day should be observed by both the people of hills and plains as the martyrs sacrificed their lives for the whole state and not for a particular section of the society.
Julie Shinglai said that Patriots' Day is not only for the Meiteis but is also for the Nagas since many Nagas also sacrificed their lives in the Anglo Manipuri War 1891 .
So we should observe this day in the hills every year and pay homage to the departed souls.
