1200 houses inundated

With the water level of Loktak lake rising steadily, around 1200 houses in Mayang Imphal Assembly Constituency have been inundated causing severe hardships to a large number of people.
Mayang Imphal AC MLA Dr Kh Ratankumar and Mayang Imphal SDC KF Gangmei visited the flooded areas today and made a field assessment.
They also visited the relief camps where people displaced by flood were taking shelter.
Around 100 houses have been inundated in Komlakhong, 150 houses in Phoubakchao, 300 houses in Laphupat Tera Awang Mayai Leikai and Makha Leikai, 200 houses in Charoibung and Konchak Yangbi and 440 houses in Bengoon area.
For the affected people three emergency relief camps have been opened in Bengoon area.
Later speaking to media persons, MLA Ratankumar said that while water levels have been receding in Imphal area, the water level of Loktak lake has been rising steadily in the last couple of days.
Consequent upon the rising water level of Loktak lake, a large number of houses have been inundated.
Until the water level of Ithai Barrage recedes, people would be facing the brunt of flood for about a month, Ratankumar said.
In case there is more rainfall in the coming days, more areas would be flooded and the woes of the people would be compounded, Ratankumar said.
