Imphal, August 07 2014:
Even as the UNC and many other civil organisations have been vehemently demanding with- drawal of additional police commando and IRB personnel being deployed at Ukhrul town as well as revocation of prohibitory orders clamped under CrPC Section 144, DIG Range II Dr S Ibocha has replaced DIG Range I Kh Chandramani as the commander of security forces deployed there.
A convoy of 40 police teams with a total strength of around 300 led by DIG Dr S Ibocha, ASP P Manjeet, 9th IRB CO W Mamata, Inspectors James Thangal and Vedajit reached Ukhrul town yesterday.
To ensure safe passage of the convoy, police commandos were deployed on ROP duty between Yaingangpokpi and Mahadeva.
Similar security protection was given by IRB personnel from Mahadeva to Finch Corner.
The convoy of State forces which reached Ukhrul town yesterday included women police and IRB personnel.
In the meantime, some information about the presence of a bomb at Finch Corner reached Imphal yesterday.
But it later turned out to be hoax.
Following the assassination of former Ukhrul ADC Chairman Ngalangzar Malue at Finch Corner by militants suspected to be NSCN-IM cadres on July 12, a strong team of State forces led by DIG Chandramani was deployed in Ukhrul town.
They raided NSCN-IM's Wung Tangkhul Region tactical headquarters on July 13 and arrested eight cadres of the outfit.
To thwart off any untoward incident, CrPC Section 144 was promulgated in the town since then.
Apart from imposing bandh and general strikes by different organisations against promulgating CrPC 144 and deployment of additional State security forces, UNC is presently imposing ban on national projects for a period of 10 days against what it termed as militarization of Ukhrul town.
It is reported that the first batch of additional security forces led by DIG Chandramani reached Imphal yesterday.
