Constable recruitment row : Police foil BJP's attempt to storm Assembly

Police fired teargas shells to disperse a group of BJP workers and leaders including women volunteers who tried to storm the State Assembly the session of which began today.
They were demanding immediate cancellation of the fresh recruitment rally of Manipur police Constables (Male) currently going on at MPTC, Pangei.
The BJP workers and leaders suddenly appeared from near Khoyathong Pukhri Achouba, located close to BJP MLA Kh Joykishan's private residence, and tried to march towards State Assembly at around 11 am.
However, a large police team barricaded them at Khoyathong traffic point.
Even as the police were trying to control the demonstrators, another group of BJP workers led by their president K Bhabananda came out from a lane located opposite to ABC godown and walked towards the State Assembly.
A part of the police team chased the BJP workers and stopped them near Thangmeiband Watham Leirak.

At that time, some BJP workers broke the police barricade at Khoyathong traffic point to proceed towards the Assembly.
Upon which, police exploded smoke bombs and fired teargas shells to control the demonstrators.
Some BJP workers were injured in the police action.
Later, police erected iron barricades to block the BJP workers at Khoyathong traffic point.
The other group led by K Bhabananda also returned to Khoyathong after they briefly staged a sit-in-protest in the middle of the road.
They raised slogans like 'cancel the fresh recruitment of Manipur police Constable', 'Long live BJP', 'resign Chief Minister O Ibobi' and 'resign Home Minister Gaikhangam' etc.
Using megaphone, BJP leaders spoke against the Congress Government.
Meanwhile, BJP Manipur Pradesh in a statement has said that six BJP workers were injured in today's protest.
Strongly condemning the police action, the party said that it would continue their movement until the State Government revokes its decision on police Constable recruitment.
However, there would be no demonstration tomorrow (September 3) on account of Sapam Robinhood's 'Phiroi' ceremony, said the statement.
