Imphal, December 04:
The state Rajya Sabha MP, W Angou Singh, has sought a clarification from the Manipur Human Rights Commission member, Yambem Laba, regarding a statement which the latter is supposed to have made to the effect that Angou had failed to raise the issue of the Malom massacre of November last year in Parliament.
Laba supposedly made the statement while dedicating a memorial park in memory of the Malom victims early last week.
Angou, addressing a press conference this morning, said Labas supposed statement was untrue, pointing out that he had made submitted a written statement in Rajya Sabha regarding the matter on November 29 last year and it was brought up during discussions the next day.
Angou wanted an early clarification from Laba, and warned that action could be taken in this regard on the basis of breach of Parliamentary privileges.
In the meantime, Laba, whom mediapersons contacted in this regard, has denied the charge that he had made any statement against W Angou with regard to the Malom massacre.
Yambem Laba confirmed that he had met W Angou at the RIMS on November 3, 2000 while visiting those injured subsequent to the Malom incident and asked the latter to take up the matter with then chief minister W Nipamacha Singh, to impress upon the latter the need to take up a judicial inquiry into the case as a magisterial inquiry will have no jurisdiction over AR personnel.
