The all India general secretary of the Students Federation of India, Shamik Lahiri, an MP in Lok Sabha, is due to meet the Union human resource development minister, Murli Manohar Joshi, tomorrow at Parliament House to bring to the latter�s notice the plight of the MPSC recommended candidates for appointment as government college lecturers.
Stating this, in a press statement issued by the SFI, Manipur State Committee said Shamik Lahiri, who is himself a member of the Parliamentary standing committee on human resources development, is expected to demand of the Union minister why the government was sitting on the appointment of the recommended candidates without assigning any reasons.
It may be mentioned that members of the MPSC recommended College Lecturers Association have been staging a relay hunger strike for the past 13 days demanding their immediate appointment in government service.
The SFI statement mentioned that Left stalwart Somnath Chatterjee had also raised the matter during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha on November 28 last, and also submitted a written demand for the appointment of the lecturers at the earliest.
Shamik Lahiri is also due to submit a memorandum in this regard to the Union HRD minister during their meeting tomorrow.
The statement reiterated that the SFI, Manipur State Committee fully supported the lectureship candidates� demands.
