Imphal, August 27 2010:
Due to the continuing deterioration in the condition of Imphal-Jiribam highway near Kambiron extending for about 3/4 Kms, around 400 vehicles have been stranded.
On the other hand, 195 vehicles have started for Imphal with CRPF escorts today.
According to information received from the Transporters' and Drivers' Council, 30 trucks fully loaded with shingles and stone chips would go to Kambiron tomorrow with special security escort arrangements to repair the extremely dilapidated portion.
After repairing the portion, the stranded vehicles would be brought to Imphal under security escorts.
On the other hand, Mao Police informed that 195 vehicles escorted by CRPF personnel crossed Mao for Imphal today whereas 96 empty trucks were seen crossing Mao Gate for Dimapur and Assam.
The vehicles heading for Imphal included 125 loaded trucks, 48 oil tankers, five bullet tankers and 17 light vehicles.
These vehicles reached Manipur via a by-pass as the Imphal-Dimapur highway section cut off by landslide near Kohima has not been restored as yet.
