In spite of the fact that the SPF Government is facing lot of problems due to the present financial constraint, yet it has performed commendably well in reducing the overdraft amount of the State from a whopping Rs 600/700 crores to some Rs 200 crores, said Horticulture and Soil Conservation Minister RK Thekho.
Addressing at the valedictory function of the two day Kisan Mela cum Kisan Diwas at Central Agricultural University (CAU), Iroisemba today, Thekho exuded confidence that the SPF Govt would be able to overcome the financial difficulties and appealed to the people to extend their co-operation in this regard.
Thekho who was the chief guest of the function said the soil of Manipur both in the hill as well in the plain is very fertile and various types of crops can be grown throughout the year round.
The farmers and even the educated youth can improved their lots taking up farming occupation in a big way, he suggested.
Thekho also proposed that a Task Force for the fanners and horticulturists should be termed to increase the production as well as to provide an easy markets of the produce.
CAU Vice Chancellor SS Bhaghel who presided over the concluding function assured the farmers all possible assistance from the side of the University towards the endeavor of self sufficiency in food production.
The two day Kisan Mela cum Kisan Diwas was held to coincide with the commemoration of the birth anniversary of late former Prime Minister of India Chaudhury Charan Singh.
