Imphal, December 23:
The cease work strike launched by the employees of the Imphal Urban Cooperative Bank Ltd has been suspended following an agreement reached between the employees and the Government.
Md Abdul Salam, Minister for Cooperation and Minority & OBC today said the bank will be opened from tomorrow and all normal works will be resumed.
The Government had recently appointed nine administrators for the IUCB without pay.
The employees opposed the move.
The employees resorted to strike without giving any prior notice, the Minister said.
The number of administrators will be reduced to three, he said.
They will be nominee of the Government without pay.
Salam further said the Government has established three women cooperative banks in Bishnupur, Thoubal and Churachandpur.
Now another three banks will be opened at Ukhrul, Imphal East and West.
The new banks will generate employment to around 2000 youths.
The Government has reserved Rs 3 crores for the purpose, he added.
The strike of the employees had crippled the normal banking services of the bank.
All the branches were closed though the employees attended the offices.
People had complained over the closure of all the branches of the bank.
The appointment of nine administrators by the Government took everybody by surprise.
Political bungling would disturb normal functioning of a bank.
Experts are needed not appointee the staff felt.
